Dryer Vent Cleaning in Jacksonville, FL

Nine times out of ten in Jacksonville it's the vent, not the dryer. Long drying times almost always mean the duct is restricted, and how it got restricted depends on what kind of house you're in. In a Riverside or Springfield bungalow where the laundry was tucked into a former back porch, the run is usually improvised — extra elbows, a length of flex crammed behind the machine, sometimes a transition that was never sealed. In a 1990s-or-newer Southside or Northside home with the laundry upstairs, the duct climbs into the attic and runs to a roof cap, and lint settles at every turn on the way up. Either way, the dryer is working fine; it just can't push moist air out. We check airflow at the hood or cap before and after so you can see the difference rather than take our word for it.

It splits fairly cleanly by neighborhood age. In the older urban core — Riverside, Avondale, Springfield — we find the most patched ductwork in the city: sections of flex joined with tape, runs that pass through a crawlspace or a rear addition, and old wall penetrations that never got a proper hood. In the 1950s-70s block ranches across Arlington, the Westside and Southside, the run is short and punched straight through the block wall, which is good news, but the exterior flap is often painted shut, corroded, or blocked by a shrub, and the sleeve through the block can crack or lose its seal. In newer two-story homes, the failures are attic-side: sagging flex between joists that traps lint, disconnected joints dumping hot wet air into the attic, and roof caps with screens or bird nests in them. Pollen season adds a layer to all of it — February through April the oak and pine load coats exterior hoods and mixes with lint into a mat that flaps can't push open.

Jacksonville is geographically enormous, so scheduling is really a question of where in the city you are. Straight-run block ranch jobs on the Westside, Arlington and Southside are quick appointments and usually the easiest to slot in. Second-floor laundry with an attic run to a roof cap takes longer on site, so those get booked with more time on the calendar. Older urban core homes are the hardest to estimate up front, because we often don't know what the duct actually looks like until the dryer is pulled out. Sometimes, especially if you're in one of the block ranch areas where the vent goes straight through the wall and we already have a truck on that side of the river. Same-day is much less likely for a roof-cap job in a newer subdivision, because that's rooftop work and weather-dependent — our summer afternoons don't cooperate, and we won't put someone on a wet roof to save a few hours. Older homes with unknown duct routing are also poor same-day candidates, since a fifteen-minute clean can turn into a repair once we see how the run was built.
